RULE 1- MEMBERSHIP CLASSIFICATIONS


Membership classification for any member shall be determined as of the date of acceptance for membership in any particular membership year of the Club, except that Independent Juniors must qualify as set forth in Rule 1.04 hereof.


A member's classification may not be changed once such classification has been determined, except in accordance with these rules.


1.01
  ADULT (senior) - A member who is not a junior as defined by the Bylaws and who does not qualify to become a member by virtue of any other classification of the Bylaws shall qualify as an Adult.

1.02
 
SPOUSE - Two persons who are legally married to each other, or having lived common-law together for not less than two years, and if both qualify under A.1.b of the Bylaws, shall qualify for membership as Adult and Spouse.

1.03
 
FAMILY JUNIOR - A child of an adult (senior) member who would otherwise qualify as an Independent Junior member, shall qualify for membership as a Family Junior.

1.04
 
INDEPENDENT JUNIOR
- A person who qualifies as a junior according to Badminton B.C. or Squash B.C. at the beginning of a membership year shall qualify as an Independent Junior.  If such a person has a birthday which will preclude him/her from being classified as a junior by Badminton B.C. or Squash B.C. in the current membership year, such a person will have a choice of ;   
  1. joining as a junior member for the entire membership year.
  2. joining as a full-time student if they so qualify, or adult for the entire membership year.
  3. switching from junior to full-time student if they so qualify, or adult on their birthday with dues prorated.
1.05   FULL-TIME STUDENT - An individual who is in full-time (minimum of 9 credit hours or equivalent) attendance at a post secondary or other educational institution, and who is not a junior as defined by the Bylaws, shall qualify as a Full-time Student.  Proof of registration at said institution may be requested.

1.06
 
SENIOR CITIZEN - A person who is sixty-five years of age or older as of the beginning of the current membership year shall qualify as a Senior Citizen.

1.07
 
OUT-OF-TOWN
- A person who habitually resides beyond Hope, Squamish, the U.S. border or lives on Vancouver Island shall qualify for membership as an Out-of-Town member.

1.08
 
RETAINER
- A person who is a member in good standing at the end of a membership year and who does not wish to relinquish membership in the Club may qualify as a Retainer for the subsequent year(s). There are NO playing privileges.

1.09
 
DOUBLES ONLY SQUASH
- Any person who registers under the restrictions listed for this classification under "Playing Privileges" shall qualify as a Doubles Only Squash member.

1.10
 
DAYTIME ONLY
- Any person who registers under the restriction(s) listed for this classification under "Playing Privileges" shall qualify as a Daytime Only member.

1.11
 
EARLY BIRD
- Any person who registers under the restrictions listed for this classification under "Playing Privileges" shall qualify as an Early Bird member.

1.12
 
HONOURARY LIFE MEMBER
- A person whose service to the Club or position in the community has been, or is exceptional, may be named an Honourary member for Life upon the recommendation of Board of Directors, approved by the members of the Club at a duly constituted general meeting of the Club.

1.13
 
HONOURARY MEMBER
- A person whose service to the Club or position in the community is worthy of recognition, may be named an Honourary member for a period of one year by resolution adopted by the Board of Directors.

1.14
 
COMPLIMENTARY MEMBER
- The Board of Directors may offer a complimentary membership to a person or persons who, in the Board's opinion, merit the same.

1.15
 
SUMMER
- The summer membership is for May, June, July, and August.  No initiation is required.  A summer member has no voting privileges.

1.16
 
FITNESS ONLY
- allows use of fitness facilities, change room, sauna, and steamroom.  No initiation is required.  Fitness Only members have no access to the Squash or Badminton courts. A fitness member has no voting privileges.

1.17
 
ACCEPTANCE FOR MEMBERSHIP
- The application of a member shall be deemed to have been accepted upon payment of the prescribed initiation fee plus dues in respect of that member, unless the Board of Directors, by resolution, refuses such application within 60 days of receipt.

1.18
  MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING - A person whose application for membership has been accepted in respect of a membership year and who abides by the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Club shall be a member in good standing during that membership year.

MEMBERSHIP QUOTAS
- The Board of Directors may establish from time to time quotas of membership in respect of any category or classification.  Upon such quota being filled, a waiting list shall be maintained and vacancies for membership shall be filled from such waiting list in order of priority, which shall be determined by date of application, except as otherwise provided by regulation.

WAITING LIST
– In the event that playing memberships are full, a waiting list will be formed.  For an Applicant's name to be placed on the waiting list he/she must pay a deposit of $50.00.  The waiting list deposit will be applied to the initiation due once a membership has been taken out.  This fee is non-refundable except when the club has not been able to offer a membership within one (1) calendar year of the date of the application.  In this event, upon receipt of written request from the applicant, the club will refund the deposit.  Applicants will be notified when openings become available.
